Why you should have a daily smoothie!

In this day and age we are always on the go, and always busy. Sometimes this means we can put our health and nutrition on the back burner and choose convenience. Some people tend to opt for fast food or things that they can eat in a hurry.

This is one of the reasons that smoothies are so great. Smoothies are fast to make, and super nutritious. They are also an excellent alternative to fast food.

Here are a few more reasons that you should have a daily smoothie.

They are nutritious. You can pack as much fruit and vegetables into them as you would like. This is great if you are not the biggest vegetable fan. Smoothies make it easy for you to get the daily-recommended servings of veggies.

They are packed with fibre. Fresh juice is great, however it is stripped of all of the fibre that we need to keep us healthy and regular. When making smoothies you keep all of the good stuff in there. This also means the nutrients are delivered to your system slower and help to keep your blood sugar regulated.

Smoothies are filling. If you are trying to control cravings and decrease your appetite, smoothies are great for this also. I often have a smoothie for breakfast and it keeps me full well into lunch. Adding in filling foods like chia seeds, flax seeds and psyllium husk can also help with satiation. A pre-workout smoothie can help you go the extra mile during your workout.

Smoothies are NEVER boring! You can make so many combinations of smoothies, the choices are endless! I like to experiment with different flavors, fruits and protein powders. Doing this helps keep me interested in drinking smoothies and keeps me excited about new recipe creations. I also like to make smoothie bowls, these are made a little thicker and you can add fresh fruit and toppings and eat it with a spoon.

There are many more benefits to having a daily smoothie but these are the ones that keep me making mine each day.

Do you drink smoothies? What is your favourite combination? Leave your comments below, we would love to hear from you!

You’re smoothie looks perfect. I got to try it coz I’m sure the kids would love it. What brand of blender do you use? My personal favorite is the Ninja Mega Kitchen System. It is easy clean up, sturdy. It also has sharp blades and highly safety mechanism. See more cool blenders on this page http://topproducts.com/reviews/best-countertop-blender.htm

I like to blend 4 cups of filtered water and one whole lemon (peel and all – but wash first). Then I store it in frig and use this as a basis for smoothies. I’ll take a cup or so of this (sometimes add a little water), add vanilla protein powder, liquid vanilla stevia and 1/2 frozen banana or frozen berries. It’s simple and delicious.

I wish I knew more about smoothies because I love them but I just don’t like trying to collect all the stuff I need to make them
